This Policy exists to recognize the valuable contribution of individuals to the past, current and future existence of the Virtus Soccer Club.
The policy sets out the minimum criteria to be eligible for nomination for an award of Life Membership of the Virtus Soccer Cub.
It is imperative that such clear guidelines are in place to ensure that the process is transparent and all persons who qualify for such a prestigious award are duly recognized.
|Senior players||Players who have played in either Seniors, Reserves, U23, U19 or U18’s.|
|Life Membership Coordinator||Person appointed by the Board of Management to maintain the Life Membership Register.|
|Volunteers||Those persons that aren’t on recognized Committees but who donate their valuable time to support the Club. e.g. Kitchen staff, Groundsmen etc.|
An electronic register shall be created and maintained to ensure that all service is recorded accordingly. This register must be backed up each time it changes and a backup copy shall be kept on separate premises to where the original is stored. This is to ensure that this most important historical data is never lost as a result of a faulty computer or a disaster.
The register shall record the year, the person and the position of service.
The Board of Management has determined that the following service is the minimum to be recorded against a person who has served the club during the financial year which concludes each year on 30th September.
Board Members/ Committee persons – one year of service if the person has completed a full years’ service on the Board of Management. If a full year’s service was not completed, a pro-rata amount of service shall be accredited based on time served.
Friday Night Kitchen Staff – 0.5 of a year if the person has fulfilled their duties on the kitchen roster. If a full year’s service on the roster was not completed, a pro-rata amount of service shall be accredited based on time served.
Catering Staff – 0.5 of a year if the person has served at a minimum of ?? functions. A pro-rata amount of service shall be accredited based on time served if the ?? functions haven’t been achieved.
Groundsmen – One year of service if the person has completed a full year in the role. If a full year’s service was not completed, a pro-rata amount of service shall be accredited based on time served.
Other – Board members shall discuss and agree on other volunteers at the last meeting of the Financial year of the club. Each Director shall submit a list of volunteers from his/her area to this meeting, and a recommendation of service to be granted. In arriving at a figure to be recorded, consideration shall be given to the amount of hours that person has served in comparison to the other positions above.
Paid positions will not qualify for life membership. An exception to this will be where a person who is in a paid position devotes more time to the club than the payment actually covers. The Board of Management shall discuss and agree on these positions at year end and communicate such decision to the Life Membership Coordinator.
Length of Service to Qualify for Life Membership
The length of service to the club to qualify for Life membership shall be 10 years.
In the case of players, a minimum of 250 senior games must be played to qualify for Life membership.
Life membership qualification may also be achieved through a combination of service and games of senior soccer played.
The Life Membership Coordinator shall be responsible for collecting the service data and recording it into the register. To do this he/she shall:
- Seek kitchen staff and catering staff rosters from the Director responsible for these areas.
- Request Board of Management details from the club secretary.
- Seek groundsmen details of service form the Director responsible for this area.
- Seek player details from the Team Manager who is able to access such data from the FSSA.
Awarding Life Membership
At the end of the financial year the Life Membership Coordinator shall seek the appropriate service details and update the Life Membership Register. He/she shall then check the register for any member who at the end of that financial year has completed 10 years of service or if in the case of a player, completed 250 senior games or a combination of service and games of senior soccer played.
He/she shall then advise the Board of Management of any persons who have qualified for Life Membership and provide details of the individuals who have qualified.
The Board of Management shall then decide if the above persons are to be awarded Life Membership that year and make appropriate arrangements.
